TakeNOTE
chamber choir

Carolyn Robson writes,

TakeNOTE Chamber Choir is my small vocal ensemble. We are never more than 20 singers, invited to join from across Hampshire. The choir tackles some repertoire that will be familiar to my community choirs - arrangements by Sarah Morgan for example. But we perform some less familiar repertoire as well.
I set TakeNOTE singers a formidable challenge: to learn the music and words for each concert programme and perform without the safety net of a score or the lyrics. That requires a lot of homework but it leads to a close familiarity with the music and a deeper understanding of the lyrics. And there's an added benefit. TakeNOTE singers look unfailingly at their music director (me) and I can flex the pace and dynamics of a song in performance. At our best we create a glorious sound and a moving experience for both singers and audience.

What's on in 2025
Friday 12 December at 7:30pm
St Paul's Church, Winchester
We make a return to this beautifully refurbished Victorian parish church, with an acoustic to die for. It's a concert featuring our Winter repertoire. Too early to tell you what it will be. Watch this space for more information.
Our image shows Canon Street, Winchester in the snow in 2018 - a photograph by Javaid Akhtar. 'I waited years for snow to arrive in photogenic quantities and this year just about managed to satisfy that itch.'

Tuesday 16 December at 7:30pm
New Hall, Winchester College
We are guests of Winchester Community Choir. 2025 is their anniversary year. They celebrate their 20th and they've asked TakeNOTE to join in their Christmas celebration, together with another wonderful Hampshire choir, the Andover Museum Loft Singers.

The setting is special, New Hall at Winchester College, newly refurbished but with paneling from the college's old chapel to make a wonderfully sonorous acoustic. Old meets new in the venue and in the programme of this very special concert.
